A Sublime Movie

I saw the movie Hero last night. There's no way I can really do justice to this film. I'll just say this: if the idea of a mixture of Ran, Rashomon, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and actual 2000-year-old history appeals to you, then go see it! All of this is combined with a superb score and soundtrack, and a cinematographic visual poetry/haiku that is so stunning, I darned near wept openly. I was enthralled throughout.

Much like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the wire work seems a little corny at first, but once you accept it as being part of the art form, the choreography is amazing. Another bonus is that for all the martial arts and swordplay that happen, the film itself is essentially bloodless, with wounds only implied and not presented in graphic detail.

Oh, yeah, it also came in at 94% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes.
