The editor of the New Republic has called for the Democratic Party to reclaim the hawkish liberalism it once stood for, and says that the Party purged itself of its most leftwing elements in the late 40's and can do so again. Stanley Kurtz
examines the unique historical circumstances which enabled that purge to take place, and makes the case that such circumstances are completely lacking today. A nice piece of analysis.
