An Eerie Calm

Today I whipped through all the blogs and websites I look at in record time. I'd forgotten what a slow news day feels like. It seems like things have been running at red-hot intensity for 6 years, and maybe we're finally going to be getting a breather. In those 6 years we've had the Clinton impeachment. The insane dot-com boom and bust. The 2000 election and Florida debacle. The Jeffords defection. 9/11. The 2002 midterms which gave us the Wellstone funeral political rally, the 'Torricelli option', and the Trent Lott implosion. The Iraq invasion and its lead-up. The 2004 campaign, featuring the SwiftVets, RatherGate, the debates, etc, etc.

Wouldn't it be odd if things got calm and normal for a stretch?
